# CheckMyBuilder

> CheckMyBuilder is New Zealand's independent background-check service for the people you hire and the houses you buy. Homeowners use it to check a builder or tradie against the official NZ record (company status, insolvency, court and regulator findings) before they sign a contract or pay a deposit, and to check a property's title, land and hazards before they buy. Verified Tradies carry a live, monitored trust badge.

The site is built from the public NZ Companies Register and other official sources. Every factual claim about a specific company comes from the public record on the date shown. We do not rate workmanship, and we never imply guilt by absence.

## Data and methodology
- The directory covers every NZ-registered company. Status, registered office, directors, NZBN, industry classification and filing history come from the official NZ Companies Register and Gazette notices.
- Verified subscribers are monitored continuously: re-checked against the register every few days, and the badge is revoked automatically if their standing changes.
- Reports surface insolvency proceedings, court orders, regulator findings and other public-record signals. We never invent or imply findings that are not on record.
- Property reports pull from LINZ, council GIS layers and other official datasets. Anything we could not check is labelled "Not checked", never guessed.
